About me
Urban Legends is located just outside of Kingston, Ontario, Canada On a little over 2 acres of land dedicated completely to my dogs.
I am the PRESIDENT / FOUNDING MEMBER of the THAI RIDGEBACK CLUB of CANADA and the PRESIDENT of the MAPLE LEAF KENNEL CLUB (UKC) . I am also the rescue co-ordinator for the Thai Ridgeback Club of Canada. I was previously VICE PRESIDENT of the CANADIAN NATIONAL NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF CLUB, Director for CANADIAN MINIATURE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD ASSOCIATION, a director /secretary for the MINIATURE AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD CLUB OF AMERICA, as well as the SECRETARY/ SHOW ORGANIZER for the CANADIAN MOLOSSER ASSOCIATION.
I have been involved with animals all of my life. Having grown up on a hobby farm and always having farm dogs as well as many other animals. I worked at a kennel which led me to breeding Rottweilers. I have been involved in breeding, showing, training, and competing with dogs for over 30 years. I also trained and competed with my Quarter Horses for many years. I was a zookeeper and am well versed in breeding, training and animal husbandry.
I am very active in the dog show world attending events nearly every weekend in the summer. I can be found with my dogs at Canine Federation of Canada, Canadian Kennel Club, American Rare Breed Assoc., American Kennel Club, Agility Association of Canada, United Kennel Club events and many others. We compete in many areas such as conformation, agility, rally-obedience, herding, weight pull, lure coursing, barn hunting and scent detection. I also organize events for the Maple Leaf Kennel Club.
I have Judged junior handlers, matches and Specialties, rat wrangled at Barn Hunts, been a hide official for scent trials, judged at race meets and acted as hunt master at Lure coursing trials. I teach Barn hunt classes, show handling classes and scent detection classes. I have travelled world wide to compete with my dogs and evaluate dogs for breeding programs.
All of my dogs are raised in my home, and not in a kennel. They are very important part of the family and are well-loved pets. For me, dogs are my passion and competing and spending time with my dogs is my enjoyment.
All of my dogs are owner handled in the conformation and performance ring. We are proud to say that our dogs are also assisting some very talented Junior handlers move up the ranks as well as being therapy and service dogs.
My aim is to breed social, intelligent, happy, healthy Miniature Australian Shepherds who are a pleasure to live with as pets, show, working and performance dogs. I take pride in producing highly trainable, fun-loving puppies with tons of attitude, workability and showmanship. By competing in performance events as well as conformation ensures our dogs are well socialized and I understand their temperaments, their drive and abilities.
Health and longevity are also very important in my breeding program. I take great care to do what I can to ensure this is a priority when breeding my dogs. To do this we do full panel DNA disease testing, certifiy hips, elbows, patellas and eyes. Doing this extensive testing helps us make choices on what dogs will have the greatest chance of producing happy healthy puppies. We have also kept most of our dogs registered as both Miniature Australian Shepherds (MASCA) and Miniature American Shepherds (AKC) in order to allow us a greater diversity in the gene pool and have a broader range of dogs to be able to add to our program.
With the combination of health testing and competing in multiple events we are working towards our goal of producing the best quality minis we possibly can.
